The Glass Ballerina

***
Backstory. A glass ballerina twirls as though falling, then crashes to the floor. A young girl, who we later realize is Sun as a young child, runs out of the room. The house is beautiful, obviously belonging to a wealthy family. She sits at the piano, playing. Her father walks in and asks if she broke the ballerina. Sun says the maid did it. Mr. Paik replies that he will have to fire the maid if she broke it. Sun insists the maid did it. Her father looks angry and says "very well", then leaves the room.
The boat. Sun is washing her face in the boat's bathroom. Jin comes in and asks her to translate to Sayid. Jin says it is time to go. Sayid insists on staying because Jack and the others are depending on his signal. Jin and Sun argue. Sun tells Sayid she will help him sail the boat, although this is not what Jin wants.
Jack's cell. Juliet brings soup in to Jack, who is sitting on the floor in a corner. She asks him if he's feeling any better. She tells him she made the soup herself, but she won't take it the wrong way if he doesn't like it. She's sweet to him, but he doesn't speak to her.
She leaves the cell and knocks on a door down the hall. Ben answers and says, "You never made *me* soup." He was in a room with monitors, like the Pearl.
Another woman, Colleen, descends a ladder into the hallway and asks if she's interrupting anything. Juliet responds, "Would it matter if you were?" There seems to be some animosity between the two women. Colleen says they have a situation, then talks about Sayid finding the fake hatch. Ben says that's good, they meant for that to happen. Colleen continues and says they have a sailboat. Juliet says, "Good. Sailing in circles will keep them busy." Colleen points out it also means they could find the Others. Ben sends Colleen to put together a team--within the hour--and emphasizes that he wants that boat.

Sawyer's cage. He is messing with the cage. Tom and three Others with guns arrive and get Sawyer and Kate out of them. One hands Sawyer a lunchbox and says he will need it to keep up his strength.
Colleen calls, "Denny, wait." The man with the lunchbox, who is Denny, tells her to be careful out there and kisses her cheek. Denny signals Tom to come over, then continues escorting Sawyer and Kate.
The boat. Sayid loads a gun. Sun sits next to Jin and apologizes for fighting with him in front of Sayid. Jin says she shouldn't have fought with him. Period. He asks why she came. She says because she wanted to be with him.
Backstory. Sun is in bed with Jae, the hotelier's son. He asks what's wrong. She says, "I'm married." He gives her a beautiful string of pearls. She tells him she can't accept it because Jin will wonder. Jae tells her he doesn't want to share her and that her English is excellent. He wants her to move to America.
A knock on the door. Jae answers and yells at the employee who opened the door. Mr. Paik walks in behind the employee and Jae becomes very respectful. Sun's father tells her to dress.
Others' compound. Several people are breaking up rocks and digging in the ground. Denny tells Sawyer and Kate to break up rocks and carry them out. Kate says, "In this dress?" Denny says, "That's up to you." He smirks. Sawyer smirks. Kate gives Sawyer a dirty look. Sawyer turns to Denny and says indignantly, "How dare you!"
Denny lays down the rules, which are basically that if they do anything he doesn't like, they will get shocked. Kate says she won't do anything until she sees Jack. Denny shocks Sawyer and Sawyer falls down. Denny tells her that was a quarter charge. She says nothing else. Denny points out the wheelbarrow to Sawyer "soon as you're able to walk."

Backstory. Mr. Paik's office. Jin enters and greets his father-in-law. Mr. Paik tells him there is a problem. He puts a photo of Jae on the desk and tells Jin to "put an end to it." He says the man has been stealing from him. Jin says he will send a message. Mr. Paik says he must put an end to it. Jin refuses. They argue. Jin quits. Mr. Paik calls Jin his son. He tells him they are family and his shame is Jin's shame. He asks Jin to restore the family honor. Jin nods and takes the folder with information about Jae.
The boat. Sayid points out a dock and Jin asks if it's the Others. Sayid says it looks abandoned and overgrown. He wants to dock there and build a large fire that Jack will be sure to see. Jin asks if it's safe. Sayid says it's safe.
The rocks. Sawyer pauses in his work to watch Kate and Denny yells at him. Kate breaks up rocks. Alex calls to her from the brush nearby and tells her not to let them see her talking to them. She asks Kate if they're keeping her in the cages. She asks if Carl was there and says he shouldn't have been in the cage. She tells her the dress is hers, but it looks better on Kate, so she can keep it.
The dock. Sayid tells Sun they need more wood. Sun asks why they are building such a large fire. He says Jack will see it. Sun accuses him of lying and putting their lives in danger. Sayid asks her what she knows of lying. He admits he is trying to attract the Others. He says there are footprints all over the dock, fresh, since yesterday. He plans to capture two Others when they arrive to investigate--one to ensure the other Other cooperates. He asks her to lie to Jin until the fire is lit because then it will be too late to turn back.

Backstory. Jin and Sun's apartment in Korea. Sun is home and Jin arrives. He sits at their dining table and makes small talk, but then he tells her Mr. Paik called him son for the first time. She asks why and he tells her Mr. Paik wants him to send a message. She doesn't want him to, but he says there is no choice. They can't run away because her father will find them. He says he does these things because that's what it takes to be married to her. She is angry. He leaves, saying he will go deliver the message.
The beach near the dock. Jin confronts Sayid and demands the gun. Sayid pretends not to understand. Jin calls Sun to translate and tells her he knows it's a trap and that he understands English better than she thinks he does. He knows Sun betrayed him. Sayid hands him the gun and starts to ask if he knows how to handle it. Jin clearly knows how to handle it. Jin sends Sun back to the boat. Sayid tells her where another gun is on the boat.
The rocks. Sawyer empties another wheelbarrow full of rocks and stops to look at Juliet. She tosses him a Dharma canteen. He empties it on the ground and throws the canteen aside. He turns away and sees Kate struggling and exhausted. He walks up to her and kisses her--one of those amazing Sawyer and Kate kisses. Denny knocks him over the head with the butt of a gun. Sawyer successfully fends off Denny and two Others, all of them large men. Juliet stops him when he has a gun in his hand by pointing a gun at Kate. Denny shocks him again and Sawyer thrashes on the ground.
The beach near the dock. It's night and Jin and Sayid are in the trees. Sun is on the boat. She tries to light the stove and hears noises above. Someone is onboard. She grabs the gun. Several people are onboard.

Backstory. Korea. Jin is in a car with a gun on the dashboard. He sees Jae and follows him into the hotel. Room 1516. Jae sees Jin and says, "Wait!" Jin throws him into the room and hits him several times. He asks if he knows why he is there. Jae says he is sorry. Jin says "then you know what I have to do." He puts a pillow and the gun to Jae's head, but he can't do it. He tells Jae to leave the country and make a new life. He leaves the room and returns to his car. Seconds later, Jae lands on the hood of his car, having fallen from a height. He is dead and the string of pearls is in his hand.
The beach. Sayid and Jin look at each other and Sayid says he doesn't think they are coming.
The boat. Colleen enters the cabin of the boat. Sun points the gun at her and tells her to let her off the boat. Colleen says she can't do that. Why not? It's not her decision to make. Sun tells her not to move or she will kill her. Colleen says, "You will not, Sun Wa-Kwon. We know all about you." She tells Sun that the Others are not the enemy, but if Sun shoots her, that is what they will become. She moves and Sun shoots her in the stomach.
Several people shoot at Sun. She hides in the back of the cabin as the boat is being driven away. Sayid and Jin run to the dock and fire at the Others, who fire back. Sun gets a hatch open and makes it to the deck. Tom sees her and the shooting begins again. She falls off the boat. Jin has leapt into the water and is yelling for her. Several seconds go by with no response, then Sun answers. They meet up and Jin is clearly relieved.

Backstory. Jae's funeral. Sun looks sad. Mr. Paik walks up behind her and tells her she shouldn't be there. She asks why he is there. He tells her he does business with the young man's father. He says Jae jumped from a balcony. "He must have felt great shame." He tells Sun to go home to her husband. Sun asks him if he will tell Jin. Mr. Paik says it is not his place to tell Jin.
The beach. Jin tenderly wraps a blanket around Sun and tells her he doesn't know "what I would do without you--both of you." Sayid apologizes for dragging them into this. Sayid says next time he will listen to Jin. The three of them set off down the beach.
The cages. Sawyer and Kate are thrown into the cages. Sawyer looks injured. Kate asks him what he was thinking. Sawyer says he couldn't help himself. She just looked so cute swinging the pickaxe. Kate stops him. Sawyer gets serious and rates each of the Others in a fight. He was assessing their strengths. He thinks most of them haven't seen any real action. He also thinks Juliet would have shot Kate, no problem. Kate asks why Juliet called him James. Sawyer tells her because that's his name. He also tells Kate she tastes like strawberries. Kate tells him he tastes like fish biscuits. Sawyer continues talking about waiting for the Others to make a mistake as the scene shifts...
The monitor room. Ben is watching Sawyer on a monitor and listening to everything he is saying.
Jack's cell. Ben is inside the cell with a chair. He sits down. Ben points out the irony of the situation--with Jack formerly the captor. He tells Jack he lied about who he was because he didn't want to be tortured by Sayid any more. Jack asks what he wants. Ben says he wants Jack to change his perspective. To do this, Ben wants to give a proper introduction. Benjamin Linus. He's lived on this island all his life. He offers his hand, but Jack refuses it.
Ben stands up and says, "Bring it in." Another Other brings in a monitor to the viewing station. Ben tells Jack if he cooperates he will send him home. Jack says that if Ben could leave the island, why would he stay? Ben says, "Yes, why would we stay?" He tells Jack that flight 815 crashed on September 22nd. Today is November 29. They've been on the island 69 days. Ben tells him he does have contact with the outside. Ben tells Jack three things: Bush is re-elected, Christopher Reeves has died, and the Red Sox won the World Series, but Jack just laughs off the idea that the Red Sox won the Series. Ben turns on the monitor and the World Series comes on. Jack is surprised. Ben says, "That's home, Jack. Right there on the other side of that glass." Ben repeats that he will take him home if Jack cooperates. He seems to have gotten through to Jack.
