The Glass Ballerina: The Monitors
October 13th 2006 13:40
The second episode of the third season of the tv show Lost adds a few more mysteries as it reveals some clues. At the beginning of "The Glass Ballerina", right after Juliet drops off the soup for Jack, Ben exits a room with six monitors in it. We see this room again at the end as Ben listens to Sawyer and Kate talk about their day.
The first time we see the room, only monitors one, two, and five are visible. Monitor one shows the hallway outside the viewing room to Jack's cell. Monitor two shows Jack sulking in his corner. Monitor five shows a cage, like the ones Sawyer and Kate are in.
The second time we see the room, monitor one shows the jungle, then switches to the hallway we saw earlier. Monitor two shows Jack still sulking in his corner. Monitor three shows the jungle, then a different hallway from what monitor one shows. Monitor four is rolling and it's hard to tell what it is, but it might be another view of Jack's cell or a similar cell. Ben should turn that vert knob. Monitor five is Sawyer's cage and monitor six is Kate's cage.
Monitors one and three intrigue me. It would make sense that the jungle shown on the monitors is outside doors which the two hallways lead to. If so, then Othersville is not so close to the Hydra station. And Ben is worried that someone might sneak up on the underground portion of the Hydra.
Having monitors to view the animals makes sense from a Dharma Initiative perspective. Dharma was engineering and testing on those animals. Videotapes would have been quite useful. Training those monitors on the hallways of the facility does not make so much sense, unless one expects intruders.

Heh, and don't worry about being wrong. If we all guess what's coming next, I'm sure JJ Abrams will just rewrite.
