Further Instructions Preview
October 14th 2006 02:34
At the end of "The Glass Ballerina", a preview for "Further Instructions" appeared. I know some people consider previews spoilerish, so here's the spoiler tag:
*** SPOILER ***
Voiceover: For these survivors, it should have been the end.
[Shows Eko, then Locke, during the hatch electromagnetic problem during the season finale from last May. We see Desmond turn the wooden failsafe key.]
Voiceover: Next Wednesday...
[Locke is lying on some flattened reeds, looking a bit surprised]
Voiceover: it's just...
[Desmond looks really upset and he's looking to the left, then the right.]
Voiceover: beginning.
[Locke stands up from his flattened reeds.]
Smoke monster noise
[Locke looks frightened. Charlie looks frightened. Locke says, "Run!" Charlie and Locke run.]
Hurley: Whoa, dude!
[Hurley turns away and raises his hand to stop something. A sooty, shirtless Desmond stands up in some leafy plants.]
Desmond: What?
[Shows Desmond, confused.]
Hurley: The hatch blew off your underwear.
[Hurley looks uncomfortable talking.]
Locke: I'm going to save...Mr. Eko's life.
[Locke is holding a torch. He might be in a cave, or the jungle. Locke is on the beach. An image of Charlie and Claire, also on the beach, flashes on the screen for an instant, then back to Locke on the beach.]
[Eko is lying on the ground. It looks like his arm is jerked off-camera. He looks surprised and frightened, then screams.]
[Locke has the torch again and a spraycan, creating a makeshift flamethrower.]
Voiceover: An all-new Lost.
Then the TiVo cuts off, but I think that's it. Keep in mind that previews are often misleading.
I heard something different showed up on Canadian TV. Does anyone know what the preview was in Canada?

The only caution I would say is that it is rated TV-14 and I think it's a reasonable rating for the show. There's stuff on the show I don't think kids should know about.

Locke has so many issues that are of his own making, yet he thinks he knows everything and it's the fault of the rest of the world for not realizing his worth. People around him suffer for his hubris. Boone died because of it, not that I liked Boone much, either.
So far in the series, I really like Desmond. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who just fell in love with the wrong girl, had the wrong commanding officer during his army stint, and sailed his boat too close to the wrong island. The potential for the love story between Desmond and Penny is great. I hope they exploit it.
I'll reserve judgment on Eko until we get to know him a bit more. He's done terrible things in his life, but it doesn't seem like he would have been bad had that first incident in his childhood not happened. He pulls through when people need him. I like him now, but things might change.
