Not in Portland Easter Eggs

February 8th 2007 14:55
"Not in Portland" had some interesting revelations, but I didn't see many Easter eggs.

A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. Over on the Tail Section, DocArzt researched the exact page Aldo was looking at when Kate, Sawyer, and Alex came up to him. It's about black holes and the bending of time. Rather than reproduce his effort, I'll just direct you to the post.

A Clockwork Orange. Carl was being subjected to behavioral modification therapy a la A Clockwork Orange.

Room 23. Carl was being held in room 23.

108. The number on the monitor when Ben's blood pressure restabilized was 108.

Edmund Burke
. Juliet's ex-husband who exerted an unreasonable amount of control on her. More on her susceptibility to manipulation later. Edmund Burke was an 18th century English philosopher and politician, a "liberal conservative", wrote that governing should not be done by abstract ideas, but by organic reform.

Okay, what did I miss? I'll add more later if I catch something new.

Episode recap coming tomorrow.

I Do: Easter Eggs

November 9th 2006 16:35
This post might ought to be called "Interesting Details" rather than "Easter Eggs". The numbers didn't make an appearance and there were few references to previous episodes.

Kate's hotel room. She is staying in room 752 at the beginning of the episode. That's not one of the numbers in any way.

The song at the beginning. Ann-Margret is singing "Slowly". It's just a hugging, kissing sort of song with no deep meaning.

Officer Kevin. His uniform and squad car say Miami Dade on them. The city of Miami in Florida is in Dade County. Tallahassee, where Sawyer pulled his con, is also in Florida, although not terribly near Miami.

Monitor Five
Is it the Elizabeth?
Monitor Five. Those pesky monitors again. What is this? Desmond's boat? The sub? Is it inside a building or next to a wall?

Kate's pregnancy test. It might be a Widmore Labs Home Pregnancy Test. It's not clear on my TV. Sun got a Widmore Labs Home Pregnancy Kit from Sawyer on the island. Penny, Desmond's true love, is a Widmore and she is looking for the magnetic anomalies that arise from the island on occasion.

Feast of the Ascension. It's celebrated forty days after Easter Sunday, so the exact date changes each year. After Jesus died on the cross and rose, He is said to have walked around on Earth for forty days before rising to Heaven. Forty is a significant number in the Bible for testing periods. It also shows up on Lost several times. Eko kept his silence for forty days after killing the two Others that attacked him.

Eko's Jesus Stick. Makes another appearance. The phrase Eko etched into it is followed by a Bible citation from the book of John, making it appear as though it says, "Lift up your eyes and look north, John." Locke, of course, believing in fate and destiny, thinks he is the one the verse is speaking to.

Jacob's List.
Who is Jacob? Ethan was sent to infiltrate the fuselage survivors' camp and he was unable to make the list before Hurley discovered him. Did they send another? How could they have done that?

Cost of Living: Easter Eggs

November 2nd 2006 20:06
Were there any? I caught none at all.

Well, maybe that Brenda Lee song was an Easter egg. Otherwise, nothing.

[Edited 09 Nov 2006: I'm getting a lot of hits on this page looking for the Brenda Lee song, so here it is, from my post recapping the whole episode. The song is "I Wonder", sung by Brenda Lee, recorded in 1963 for her album "By Request" as the tenth song on that album. It was written by Cecil Gant and Raymond Levine.]

Every Man For Himself: Easter Eggs

October 26th 2006 19:19
Lost episode, "Every Man For Himself", was rife with Easter Eggs this week. Most of them concerned the numbers ( 4 8 15 16 23 42 ), which seem to be something all the survivors of flight 815 have in common.

Further Instructions: Easter Eggs

October 21st 2006 02:31
Every episode of Lost contains Easter eggs, those hidden references, sayings, and pictures that add another dimension to this Lost fanatic's life. "Further Instructions" was no exception. Here are the Easter eggs I found.

Eko's Jesus stick. I wrote a detailed post about Mr. Eko's Jesus stick. The large staff hit Locke on the shoulder as it fell from a tree. When Locke picked it up, he spent several seconds staring at it. "Lift up your eyes and look north" faces the camera square on. Several citations surround the quote. Right above the rope wrapping the handle of the stick, Eko had carved the Numbers: 4 8 15 16 23 42
